I released a YouTube video last week stating that I was planning to change the name of my website from VirtuousRuby.com to SavannahVanna.com and the name of my YouTube channel from Virtuous Ruby to just my name, Savannah Kirby. I did make those changes for a few days. Then I got a comment on the video from a subscriber and friend who said that they liked the name and wished that I would keep it.
She made me realize that deep down, I missed it too. I was just so focused on trying to grow my website and YouTube channel that I almost made a huge mistake! The name Virtuous Ruby means a great deal to me.
The name comes from Proverbs 31 from the Bible, specifically verses 10 – 31. My daddy introduced these scriptures to me when I was 10 years old. I was talking to him about this boy in class that liked me. The boy was asking if I would be his girlfriend, and I could tell that he wanted more than just a hug or kiss on the cheek even at that young age! When I came to my daddy with this, he didn’t overreact or get mad. He just went to the Bible and read Proverbs 31 verse 10 to me. He said that if the Lord believes that I’m worth more than rubies or pearls, then I shouldn’t sell myself short for some little knucklehead boy.
That was a pivotal moment in my life. After reading just that one scripture back when I was 10 years old, I knew my worth and value as a lady of God. It also meant more to me because it was my father who showed this to me. It showed that he believed that I was precious and that I shouldn’t give myself to any man who isn’t willing to give me all of him in return.
Being a virtuous lady of God is my calling, and I’ve been holding true to that ever since that day. That’s why the name Virtuous Ruby is so meaningful to me. It might not be the SEO-friendly name or the easiest for others to spell, but if others are really seeking my type of message or one of my stories, they’ll find me! I won’t change the name of this site again; I’ll just get a new domain entirely and keep this one if the situation ever called for it.
Moving forward, I’m going to do all that I can to not lose sight of myself like that ever again. Virtuous Ruby is here to stay; share it with your friends and family!
